Eddie Murphy had done this prior to Nutty Professor, playing multiple characters, but with this film he took it to another level, creating one of his most iconic performances. The main success comes from playing the family members, who are very funny and different, and the dinner scenes were the highlight of the movie, even with the unpolished humour, it still worked. I especially loved the mother and the father.

It’s clear to say that the film and the screenplay do not rise to the level of Eddie’s talent, but it’s fairly enjoyable as a light comedy. Also, the makeup work is phenomenal and very worthy of an Oscar win. I probably would’ve liked for Eddie to get nominated as well, he’s so talented doing comedy, and a lot of heavy lifting here.
