Green Card (1990)
Nominated for 1 Academy Award:
Best Original Screenplay
Peter Weir is a good director, but not much of a writer, to
be honest. The film has a good idea and the right actors, but it just fails to
deliver a satisfying screenplay. It’s not funny enough to be a comedy, and it’s
not believable enough to be romantic. It ends up being just lovely, relying
mostly on the charm of the two leads.
Not much asked of Gerard, and I didn’t feel like I knew who
this character is. But he doesn’t do anything bad. Andie starts off strong, doing
her best Mia Farrow impersonation, but hard to believe her character
would fall in love with this guy, so it’s a tough sell. The supporting roles get
lost along the way. Recommended only if you have a reason. 😊
I give it: 6/10
