Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl) (2019)
Best Documentary Short Subject (WON)
Usually I stay away from Oscar documentaries, because they’re
depressing and only point out what a terrible, cruel world there’s out there.
That being said, I was interested in this one, because it
seemed to be less tragic, and indeed it was both informative and
not-so-frustrating-to-watch. It’s about girls in Afghanistan who get a shot at
education (and also skateboarding as part of learning courage). It was nice,
with plenty of heart.
I give it: ?/10 (I don’t feel comfortable rating documentaries,
I can only trust they are close to the truth)
