I don’t know if Wall-E is my favourite animated film, but it’s arguably the best I’ve ever seen, probably along with Toy Story 3, and also arguably the best written and the best directed one. Not only is the animation superb and visually impressive, everything is so damn smart, with such care for detail, for the visual and for the emotional.

It’s hard to believe an animation about the loneliness of a small robot could be so effective and so emotional, and yet here it is, a funny story, with a lot of heart, even when having almost no dialogue. The music is beautiful, and so essential for the film. Wall-E is one smart director’s choice after the other, and a clear triumph.
