Raiders of the Lost Ark is a film with a very captivating start, that unfortunately doesn’t manage to maintain the level of excellency. It’s probably the go-to film when trying to define the Adventure genre and it does have a fast pace that is very engaging. It’s fun, but it could have been consistently more than it ends up being.

If the film has faults, they’re in the screenplay, that doesn’t create a bigger universe for such an attractive character. The film feels limited at times by its locations, by its stakes, by a conclusion that doesn’t bring enough satisfaction. I still mostly like it, I just hoped for better writing.
