Is it still controversial to like Basic Instinct? Say what you want, but it still is and it will always be entertaining. It was my introduction to the modern-noir, the erotic thriller, and what an introduction it was. I can still feel its influence in my creative process, in the way I’d build plot, imagine and score a mystery scene. The music is haunting, and right now I basically cannot get it out of my head, it’s that brilliant. 😊

I like the story, even with all the plot holes. I like the way it’s directed, I think it suits the genre. The erotic scenes are delicious, and Sharon is interesting enough to make it work. Sure, I would’ve liked a younger actor as the lead, and Michael’s character could’ve also been substantially more interesting, but I don’t actively dislike his performance.

Basic Instinct is a film that everyone should see at least once. It’s superficial, but kinky, playful and it has “the fuck of the century”.

I give it: 8.5/10 (or 7/10 or 8/10 or 9/10 I dunno)
