I can’t imagine anyone not liking Jaws. Not just
because it’s so popular, it created the concept of the summer blockbuster,
but because it’s a really well-made film and so damn entertaining. It’s also
Steven Spielberg’s big breakthrough, and he did a really good job with it,
because it’s well-directed and it could have gone wrong in so many ways. Even
the shark looks good, not like a puppet, and the film successfully manages to
sell the story.
It probably deserved its Oscar wins, especially the smart
editing, and I would also mention the cinematography. The two leads (Scheider
and Dreyfuss) deliver strong acting, but for me the star, other than the shark,
was Robert Shaw, who gives quite a mesmerizing performance, from his big
monologue to the tough guy attitude - he should’ve been a Supporting Actor contender,
and I’m surprised he wasn’t.
Glad I’ve seen it again, because I didn’t remember this
ending. 😊
I give it: 8.5/10
