This film is poetry, yet still being about something. It’s one
of the most exquisite films I have ever seen. It’s luxurious, but very
intimate. It’s disturbing, but it also creates a universe about love and
empathy. It’s very Ingmar Bergman, and all of his themes, but it’s also unlike
any other of his films.
The cinematography is one of the best, from the choice of
red as a symbol for the soul, to the use of light, to the mesmerizing
close-ups. It’s a stylish film, filled with emotions, visually striking and so
incredibly directed. While not everyone would love it, for me it’s a standard
of greatness.
All the ladies are superb, delivering memorable
performances. The acting stood out even more today, as I watched it.
I give it: 10/10
