Being John Malkovich (1999) - 2nd time
Nominated for 3 Academy Awards:
Best Director: Spike Jonze
Best Supporting Actress: Catherine Keener
Best Original Screenplay
Being John Malkovich is a masterpiece of the absurd.
If you embrace the suspension of disbelief, it’s gonna be a movie ride like none
other. And I played along, and it proved to be an experience as impressive as I
had remembered it to be. It’s directed really well, and the screenplay is just
crazy.
The Malkovich-Malkovich-Malkovich scene is iconic, so creepy
and creative. Let’s not forget what a good sport John Malkovich himself is, for
embracing this madness, though I guess it’s also flattering to be the focal
point of such a movie, with so much talent behind it. John Cusack is great and
Cameron Diaz delivers her best acting performance, and if I had to choose I
would’ve nominated her for the Oscar, and not Catherine Keener. Diaz would’ve
really deserved it.
I give it: 9/10
