Adam's Rib (1949)
Nominated for 1 Academy Award*:
Best Writing, Story and Screenplay
(*nominated
as a 1950 release)
Adam’s Rib makes for a very interesting viewing
experience. It’s a film from the 1940s about equal rights for women and, while
it’s wrapped in comedy, it has an important message, impressive through its
clarity.
It has smart, witty dialogue and the humour certainly helps deliver
the message. The chemistry between Tracy and Hepburn is quite marvelous, and, talking
about Kate, she is excellent. In a less competitive year, she would’ve been a sure
thing for a Best Actress nomination, but we know how amazing 1950 was. She
brings such energy and passion in delivering her speeches, and she’s always
focused and committed in every scene.
I give it: 8/10
