There are some ways to do a comic book movie, and then there’s Dick Tracy. I’ve seen many films in my life, but I’ve never seen another one that looks just like it. The art direction & the set decoration are perfect, with the specific design and color palette. The makeup and the costume design are top class. The story… oh well, to me it’s good enough for the genre. 😃

It’s pretty obvious by now that I’m drawn to visuals that are beautiful or special, and Dick Tracy checks those boxes so well. It’s an entertaining film filled with cameos and unexpected casting, and Al Pacino is simply amazing. We’ve seen him do angry before, but the comedic, fantasy set-up allows him to take it to another level. He is also the (only) one who perfectly plays the comedy.

It’s worth pointing out that the 1991 Academy Awards ceremony gave us live song performances from Madonna (with the winner song Sooner or Later) AND Bon Jovi (with Blaze of Glory nonetheless) and both extra-cool moments are worth checking on Youtube. 😊
