Closer (2004) - 2nd time

Nominated for 2 Academy Awards:

Best Supporting Actor: Clive Owen

Best Supporting Actress: Natalie Portman

Imagine my surprise seeing this again and liking it much more than the first time? Have I changed that much in the last 15 years? Errrr… FOR SURE! 😛 The structure bothered me less this time, and I focused more on the good stuff than the flaws. And when you start the film with one of my favourite songs ever, that’s such a bonus.

What I discovered the second time was a film that presents lust, sex and relationships the right way, not by being accurate in plot and story, but by sensing the essence of what drives us mad and horny. Sure, the story still feels weird, but if you look at it as a fantasy and forget realism, it kind of works. The actors range from good to great, with Clive being superb and Natalie having been basically robbed of an Oscar win. 🙂 In my humble opinion.
